Minutes from the General Meeting
Chatham Woman's Club The meeting was called to order at 12:45 PM by President Peg Flynn. After the Pledge of Allegiance, Peg welcomed everyone. She commended Peggy Sullivan Crespo for her marvelous job on the newsletter, and thanked Regina McDowell and Judy Doe for keeping the website current. Peg directed members to click on the website to view minutes of the previous meeting. Treasurer - Doris Riddle gave the 6-month treasurers report for the period ending September 30, 2008. Total receipts were $21,341.17 and total expenditures were $9,504.92. The balances as of September 30 were as follows: checking account $13,070.90, savings $6,758.50, CDs $7,368.71. Membership - Judi Clifford thanked Dee Flaherty for hosting a very successful New Members Tea on September 24, 2008. Judi welcomed thirteen new members and indicated that two more women joined today. Total membership is 182. She reviewed a new meeting check-in procedure and will make new name tags for all for the next meeting. Peg Flynn noted that the Chatham Woman's Club has received an award for the most new members of any woman's club in Massachusetts for 2007-2008. Quilt - Rose Marie McLoughlin gave an update on the Quilt project. Over $5,000 in profit has been realized to date, and raffle tickets and note cards are still for sale Socials - Rose Marie McLoughlin reported that two socials are full, and that respondents will be notified soon. Scholarship Committee - Joan Maloney reported that 28 applications had been received, all from Chatham residents, and that some were "repeats." Her committee is pleased to support students for more than the one year Community Service - Robin Zibrat reported on the success of the taxi money for veterans. $200 more has been placed in the account. She directed members to consult the newsletter for needed items for the November and December meetings, and passed around a sign-up sheet for volunteering at the Congregate House American Heritage - Priscilla Oliver and Edie Crowell spoke about the next meeting at the Jericho Historical Center in West Dennis on October 15, 2008. Art - Jeanne Carley reported that their first meeting, at 1:00 on October 22, will be a tour of Cape Cod Cultural Council. The Art Department currently has about 40 members Conservation - Joanna Schurmann announced the next meeting will be on October 21 at the Monomoy Yacht Club. Mike Brady, Director of the Monomoy Wildlife Refuge, will be the speaker. Literature - Sharon Oudemool reported that Three Junes will be reviewed at the next meeting on October 16, 2008 at the Community Center Legislative - Barbara Lynyak reported that guardianships will be the topic at the next meeting on October 17, 2008 First Vice President Sharon Oudemool then introduced Sharon Peake who presented "Update on Beacon Hill."
